What To Expect

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Transfer to Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by a Safaris Way representative. After a short safari briefing, enjoy a scenic transfer to Arusha, Tanzania’s safari capital, nestled at the foot of Mount Meru.

Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at your lodge, explore the town, or simply prepare for the exciting safari adventure that begins the following morning.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Karatu

After an early breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most spectacular wildlife reserves, renowned for its enormous elephant herds, majestic ancient baobab trees, and remarkable diversity of wildlife.

Enjoy a full-day game drive as you search for elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, and an impressive variety of birdlife. During the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes a vital water source, attracting thousands of animals and creating exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. A picnic lunch will be served inside the park before continuing your afternoon game drive.

Later, drive to the beautiful highlands of Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Karatu – Northern Serengeti National Park

Following breakfast, begin your journey to the legendary Northern Serengeti National Park, passing through spectacular landscapes before reaching one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.

The Northern Serengeti is world-famous for hosting the Great Migration, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the Mara River while facing powerful crocodiles and waiting predators. Depending on the season and wildlife movements, you may witness one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hyenas and many other iconic African wildlife species. As the sun sets over the endless plains, arrive at your comfortable tented camp.

Day 4: Full-Day Game Drive in Northern Serengeti

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the magnificent Northern Serengeti. Depart early in the morning when predators are most active and wildlife is at its peak. Your experienced safari guide will track the migration herds and position you for the best possible wildlife encounters.

Throughout the day, enjoy outstanding opportunities to photograph vast herds of wildebeests and zebras, as well as elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, and countless bird species.

A picnic lunch will be served at a scenic location within the park before continuing your afternoon game drive. Return to camp in the evening to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the African wilderness.

Day 5: Northern Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, depart for the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera.

Descend approximately 600 meters to the crater floor for an unforgettable game drive. The crater supports one of Africa’s highest concentrations of wildlife, including endangered black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, flamingos, and many other species.

Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the famous hippo pool before ascending the crater walls.

In the afternoon, drive back to Arusha, where your unforgettable Great Migration Safari comes to an end. Depending on your departure schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight or continue with your travel arrangements.

  • The Great Migration is a natural phenomenon, and wildlife movements vary throughout the year. While sightings cannot be guaranteed, your guide will make every effort to locate the migration herds.
  • This itinerary is suitable for families, couples, solo travelers, photographers, and small groups.
  • The best time to witness the Mara River crossing is generally from July to October, although migration patterns depend on seasonal rainfall.
  • Comfortable, lightweight clothing in neutral colors, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, and a light jacket for early morning game drives are recommended.
  • Bring a good camera, binoculars, extra batteries, and sufficient memory cards to capture your safari experience.
  • A valid passport and, where applicable, a Tanzania visa are required before travel.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance, including medical evacuation coverage, is strongly recommended.
  • Please inform us in advance of any dietary requirements, allergies, or special requests so appropriate arrangements can be made.
  • All game drives are conducted in a customized 4WD Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.
  • The itinerary may be adjusted due to weather conditions, road conditions, park regulations, or wildlife movements to ensure the best possible safari experience.
  • Tipping your safari guide and lodge staff is appreciated but remains entirely at your discretion.
  • This safari begins and ends in Arusha, with airport transfers included to and from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
