The day begins with an early departure from Addis Ababa at 6:00 AM. Enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 3.5 hours (about 200 km) along the Addis Ababa Hawassa road (A7 Highway). Leaving early helps you maximize your time at the lake while avoiding traffic along the route.
Arrive at Lake Langano around 9:30 AM and check in at your preferred spot, such as Sabana Beach Resort or Bishangari Lodge, both offering eco-friendly and nature focused settings. Spend the morning swimming in the lake, one of Ethiopia’s few bilharzia-free lakes, or simply relaxing on the beach while taking in the breathtaking scenery. For nature enthusiasts, the area is ideal for birdwatching, with a rich variety of local species.
At 12:30 PM, enjoy a leisurely lunch. You can dine at the Sabana Resort Restaurant, which serves a mix of Ethiopian and continental dishes with stunning lake views, or opt for a lakeside picnic with your own food, enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
From 2:00 PM, engage in a variety of activities depending on your interests. Boating or kayaking is available at some resorts, while short nature walks or hikes around the forested areas offer a chance to explore the local landscape. If time permits, a quick visit to the nearby Lake Abijatta Shalla National Park is recommended to see flamingos and hot springs.
