Overview

A day trip to Wenchi Crater Lake is the perfect weekend getaway. After breakfast, we begin our drive west toward Wenchi, located about 155 km from Addis Ababa, between the towns of Ambo and Weliso. This extinct volcano, rising to 3,380 meters above sea level, features a dramatic crater that embraces a stunning lake, natural hot springs, waterfalls, fertile valleys, and traditional farmlands.

Upon arrival, you can choose to hike the 4 km trail down to the lakeshore or enjoy a scenic horseback descent. The trail offers lush green hillsides, sweeping views of the lake, and charming encounters with local villages. As the path opens up, the landscape reveals a peaceful shoreline and small dock surrounded by natural beauty.

At the lake, you’ll have the chance to enjoy horse riding, hiking, and a relaxing boat trip that gives you close-up views of the crater’s serene landscape. After exploring this breathtaking natural wonder, we’ll drive back to Addis Ababa, returning refreshed and full of unforgettable memories.
