What To Expect

Day 01: Arrival – Sightseeing in Addis Ababa

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After refreshing, begin your sightseeing with a drive up Mount Entoto, which offers panoramic views of Addis Ababa and the surrounding highlands. Continue to the National Museum to see the famous fossilized remains of “Lucy,” one of the oldest hominids ever discovered. Visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral, built during World War II, and conclude the day exploring Merkato, the largest open-air market in East Africa. Overnight in Addis Ababa.

 

Day 02: Addis Ababa – Tiya – Arba Minch

After an early breakfast, depart Addis Ababa and drive south to Tiya, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its peculiar engraved standing stones. These stelae are the northernmost examples of such monuments in southern Ethiopia. Continue to the town of Welayta for a lunch stop, and then drive onward to Arba Minch, a region known for its scenic lakes and lush landscapes. Overnight in Arba Minch.

 

Day 03: Arba Minch – Chencha Dorze Villages – Konso

Start the day with a boat trip on Lake Chamo, where you can observe crocodiles basking along the shore, spot hippos, and enjoy birdwatching. Then visit Dorze village, perched in the Gughe Mountains, where locals live in UNESCO-recognized beehive-shaped huts. After returning to Arba Minch for lunch, continue the drive to Konso, a village known for its ancient terracing and vibrant cultural traditions. Overnight in Konso.

 

Day 04: Konso – Turmi

Following breakfast, explore Konso village and learn about its unique terracing methods, traditional crafts, and some of Ethiopia’s finest coffee. Proceed to Bana village, where men often style their hair with colorful clay caps decorated with feathers. Continue to Turmi, home of the Hamer people, known for their rich cultural practices and ceremonial attire. Overnight in Turmi.

 

Day 05: Turmi – Omorate – Jinka

After breakfast, take an excursion to Omorate to visit the Dassanech people, who inhabit the northern shore of Lake Turkana. Explore their traditional villages and experience local customs and way of life. Return to Turmi for lunch before driving to Jinka, the gateway to Mago National Park and other Omo Valley communities. Overnight in Jinka.

 

Day 06: Jinka – Mago National Park – Addis Ababa

Begin the day with an excursion to Mago National Park to visit the Mursi village, home to one of Ethiopia’s most distinctive ethnic groups. The Mursi live in low straw huts, and women are known for their traditional terra-cotta lip plates and ear adornments. After exploring the village and interacting with the community, return to Jinka for lunch before starting the drive back to Addis Ababa, concluding your six-day journey through the Omo Valley.
